Basic Formulation Guidelines

- 1 part Base
The foundation of your butter, cream, or lotion.

- Up to 20% Carrier Oils (based on base weight)
Add nourishment and glide. Think jojoba, almond, or argan oil.

- Up to 5% Butters (based on base weight)
Create a richer texture with shea, mango, or cocoa butter.

- Up to 10% Glycerine or Water-Soluble Additions (of total formulation)
Include botanical extracts or humectants — just reduce the water phase to maintain balance.

- Distilled Water
Adjust to achieve your ideal texture:
• 1–2 parts = Thick Body Butter
• 3 parts = Soft Cream
• 4–5 parts = Lightweight Lotion

- Up to 2% Essential Oils (or follow supplier guidelines)
Scent and customise — always ensure your additions are safe and suitable for skin.

Preservative Guidance

🧪 The base has a pH of ~6. If adding water-based ingredients, we recommend including a broad-spectrum preservative.
Always refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for correct usage rates and compatibility. Some preservatives may subtly alter the texture.

🧈 Hydrogenated Coconut Oil
A stable, plant-based emollient that forms a protective barrier on the skin to lock in moisture. It gives your product a luxurious skin feel while helping to prevent dryness and flaking.

Storage & Preservation

The base contains ingredients that offer natural microbial resistance, but it is not self-preserving.

• For short-term, refrigerated use, small batches are fine without a preservative for a few days.

• For room temperature storage, gifting, or selling, a broad-spectrum preservative is essential.
